KORCULA BEACHES:LUMBARDA-THE FAMOUS AND RARE SANDY BEACH AREA OF KORCULA ISLAND
Lumbarda is to be found on the Southern cape of the island of Korcula, surrounded by sandy beaches, the most famous being Bili Žal and Pržina, with an extensive range of small islands off-shore. This means that there is a cool breeze most days but no waves, making it easy to learn how to windsurf, practice your water-skiing and get to know the local sailing possibilities.
Walking to the beach, a 5 minute stroll, passing through fragant, fertile hills with the local vineyards providing a promise of an excellent accompaniment to your evening meal at a small seaside restaurant, the fragrant perfumes and colours of the Adriatic and Mediterranean come to life.
Lumbarda was founded by the ancient Greeks, to be followed by the deserving of the elite of the Roman Empire who were rewarded for their services with rest and relaxation in cool villas and warm thermal springs. The antique remains of these places can still be found. If the ancient Romans could find rest and relaxation on this island, so can you!
Taste all the varieties of mditerranean olives, sip some of our lemon liqueur, try Lumbarda's prosek, a nectar-sweet wine, or some of the Plavac Mali varieties, a grape that made California famous for wines, brought from Dalmatia via Croatia’s ancient inhabitants. Various restaurants offer local and international cuisine, with an excellent selection of quality wines. The inhabitants of Lumbarda are particularly proud of the well-known wine Grk. Lumbarda offers a wide choice of cafes, restaurants and family tavernas serving local gastronomy and wines. Seafood, lobsters and fish are caught locally by the fishermen of the village and are guaranteed to be fresh!
